Today is the Christmas NCIS episode. i'm so excited!!! ok i'm excited for any NCIS and NCIS LA. I might require sushi tonigh if I can convince the Mister.

The last present was acquired and is now wrapped under the tree.

Cotton Knit Baby Afghan

  • Dec. 11th, 2009 at 3:06 PM
Here is some of my baby crafts. i recently finished this afghan with yarn i bought on my US trip. It's made with the lime green "Stripes" sugar 'n cream yarn, so it should be nice and hard wearing.

It has textured 3-D pattern that is knit as part of the main block in a leaf motive. Green is my favourite colour and it's nice gender neutral.

I had previously made a jacket and hat set out of the same yarn. That also had a leaf motive and was from the same pattern book.

I've temporarily put down the yarn for baby stuff and have started on some holiday ornaments. hopefully i can get enough done in time for Christmas.

How many times should someone say "Hello" to the phone when no one responds? My husband and the coworker next to me are bad about doing it 5 or 6 times before deciding to hang up. Me, only once. no one starts talking then I'm not bothering.

Which reminds me I should call the phone company this afternoon b/c our phone keeps randomly ringing and when you pick it up, a dial tone. Or it stops ringing after 2 times.

I am getting tired of seeing Avatar EVERYWHERE. Talk about intense advertising campaign. Last Thursdays Bones was just one big ad for it and I was so pissed. The movie might be shiny but the plot is predictable. Try to conquer a new people, young idealistic male gets in with new people then fights with them to save their way of life. some people see the error of their ways. some die. Big shiny booms. Go away already movie!

I am waiting for the last of my Christmas shopping to come form Amazon. HOoray! Wrapped some stuff last night so got that done. I need to finish up Christmas cards. Ideally I'd like to get those sent out on Monday.

It's all manner of cold here. sure those of you further North and west might laugh at our 24 degrees this morning but down here in the South... brrrr.... And since I don't have a much insolation, I feel the cold more. And the national weather service says 33 outside.

It looks like more shows are going ot have Christmas specials this year. I'm so excited! I'm ready for the NCIS Christmas episode next week. I <3 my team. Especially TEAM MCGEE!!!! And Gibbs' dad! Tonight is the holiday episode of Bones with Zooe Deschennel guest starring. I'm excited :D

There's a tiny bit of snow on the ground... a dusting that fell at about 5:15am. Schools are now on a 2-hour delay. As a mom who also works outside the home, I have to say it is much easier to deal with an all-out school closure than a 2-hour delay. I mean, I don't have a 2-hour delay for work.... that puts the start of school at 10:20, and I have a mandatory mtg at work today at 10am. So P will end up probably being at school at 11 or so, when it's almost time for lunch. And I'll be the bad guy because I'm bringing her late! Either close the schools or don't...

I know I'm not the only parent with this problem... few businesses delay their opening due to weather, only the schools (elementary through colleges) and govenerment offices, pretty much... so most parents have to ask for permission to either a) bring their kids to work for a couple hours and then leave to take them to school (not easy when you are punching a time clock-and not all offices are family-friendly) or b) take a half-day unscheduled vacation, either paid or unpaid depending on their individual situation, so they can come to work eventually AFTER taking their kid to school.

I'm fortunate that my office has always okayed us bringing our kids when necessary, they even encourage it if it means you're able to show up and get your work done, but I can't skip that meeting today, they are announcing and introducing the new general manager. I have no idea how long the mtg will take, hopefully not long.

grrrrrrrr

7 random facts

  • Dec. 4th, 2009 at 1:47 PM

I cannot stand dishes in the sink. They have to be cleaned or put in the dishwasher immediately.

I much prefer cloudy days to sunny days. I would do well in Washington State. And I hate it when people classify me as weird for this.

My music tastes have not changed in many many many years. I still prefer to listen to MB20, Train, Lisa Loeb, and Rockapella over anything else. And I don’t like much new music. The emo whiney bands get on my nerves and apparently that is the style these days

When I crochet and knit, I hold my needles and hooks like no one I’ve ever seen. My way reminds me of the way a kindergartner holds crayons. ([info]dragonsinger954 can attest to this!)

People like to say being a lefty is hereditary, however, I am the only one in my family on both sides as far as anyone knows.

If I had any ambition to go back to school for a long time and then take a huge test, I would become a sleezy divorce attorney. (Though I don’t see why you have to have all this schooling and a huge test to obtain and argue “Facts”)

I am descended from King Henry VIII through is affair with Mary Boleyn and their daughter Mary Carey.

I think everyone I know has been tagged so fi not, consider yourself tagged!

Meme....gosh it's been a while...

List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

Tag seven people to do the same.

Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."...I won't say whoever wants...but I will lay claim to tagging the next 7 people on my flist that do this...and your mission, should you choose to accept it is to admit to a real quirk of yours that's weirder than one of mine...

1. I generally take off my shoes as soon as I'm in the house... I HATE wearing shoes... In fact, if I'm comfortable enough at someone's house, I usually take off my shoes there too because I don't like wearing them.

2. I have a genuine HATRED of wet socks. (This is a hazard to the shoes off quirk.) If I step in something wet...even just water, while wearing socks...BOTH socks have to come off...and are usually used to mop up whatever wet there is...unless it's something the animals left, then I get something else... Wet socks are usually accompanied by a loud shriek of surprise and displeasure and immediately followed by the sock removal dance... The ONLY thing worse than wet socks are SOCK MONKEYS...*runs*

3. I read the end of most of my books first. Since 90+% of what I read is Trashy Romance Novel, it's not hard to guess the end....but I've had SO many times that I spend a few hours reading a book....only to get to the end...and find myself disappointed with the ending...(most of the time the author spent so much time building the story up...then just ended it too abruptly for me...which I hate...).

4. I am a really picky eater with one major food allergy. I'm always honored that people would want to have me over for foods...but I'm always hesitant because I really don't want to offend someone by not eating the food they provide. Between my allergy to all things seafood, and the fact that I don't eat a lot of things...it's hard to convince people that I would really really enjoy simple foods like hamburgers on the grill and chicken strips to elaborate meals... However, I LOVE sweet foods...so I usually don't turn that down.

5. When crocheting, I always use my index finger to "trap" the loop on the hook. It's something I didn't even notice I did until I watched a vid of me crocheting. But at this point, if I were to stop, I think it would screw me up more!!!

6. When I go shopping at any general goods stores...(Wal-mart, super grocery stores, Target, etc), I almost always check the candy aisles for something interesting to try. I am a candy/chocolate junkie!!! I LOVE trying new candies that seem interesting or like the new lines of flavors so many standards are doing these days. My coworkers both love and hate me because I usually bring a bag of them in to share and get SOMEONE addicted to something.

7. I honestly think the ONLY reason I resist being a Hufflepuff is because I am not a big fan of the color yellow. (but it's not as bad as my aversion to pink...). And my avoidance of yellow is only because my sister is a true Xanthophobic (fear of the color yellow). And she doesn't fear it so much as has bad associations with it. But I'm sure it's because of her that I'm not a big fan of yellow myself...
